EVENTS!
MIDSUMMER REVEL
Come and share in the wonder of Midsummer! We will be constructing the SummerKing, the Wicker Man, in ritual on Saturday afternoon. We will honor and decorate this wooden effigy of the God of the Harvest (check last year’s listing for pictures!). There he will stand, watching over the summer fields, with our wishes and gratitude on slips of paper folded into his form. These papers will energize in the hot summer sun, and at Final Fire near Samhain, we will set him ablaze.
WHEN: Saturday, June 23, 2012. Ritual will begin at 4PM, and arrivals at 3PM and on are welcome. Weekend camping is free if you’d like to make it a 2 or 3 day event, and donations to the Denne is always welcome and appreciated!
WHERE: The Groves of the Green Man’s Denne, Greene, Maine.
WHY: To celebrate Midsummer and to build the SummerKing.
WHO: Maine Pagans. Sponsored by Cynwyd Circle.
HOW: That’s up to YOU!
WHAT: Ritual and social time only: Bring a chair and snacks to share, and a drink for yourself.
If you are camping, bring your tenting gear (tent, ground cloth, sleeping bag/blankets, pillow, flashlight), a chair, food and drink for yourself and some to share for the evenings (don’t forget dishes and utensils!). Fresh well water is available for drinking and washing. Bring drums and other musical instruments. Bug spray and sunscreen are a good idea. No need to spray for IRS agents… we’ve taken care of that.
LEAVE: Your prejudices, your sorrows, your weapons and illegal drugs.
Well behaved fur-beings welcome!

At Midsummer Revel we created a wicker man, the SummerKing, who has been standing in a sacred place under the summer sun, energizing the prayers and gratitude of our community. It is the fate of the SummerKing to lay down his life at harvest for the good of all. Willingly does he place his head upon the block, giving of himself that we may prosper. On this day, we shall honor his sacrifice and set him to burn.
